A Review of Gravitational Water Vortex Hydro Turbine Systems for Hydropower Generation

Hydropower is one of the most sustainable and desirable renewable energy sources. Gravitational water vortex hydro turbine (GWVHT) systems are suitable power generation devices for remote rural areas, particularly in developing countries, owing to their small scales low costs. There various GWVHT with different configurations operating conditions. The main components a system include inlet outlet channels, basin, on which there number blades attached. This paper presents comprehensive review regarding progress development systems, covering broad aspects types basins, turbines have shapes, orientations, sizes, numbers, etc. nature previous studies summarised. fundamentals dynamics involved quantitative analysis performance also described. turbulence models multiphase used some leading numerical simulation been reviewed. As case study, implementation PNG presented. Based major issues challenges summarised, key topics recommended future research work systems.
